Life In Haiti
The Republic of Haiti is a mountainous country located on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic. Over the centuries, people from Africa, France, Spain, and other places in the Caribbean have contributed in different ways to Haiti’s long, dramatic history and rich, vibrant culture. Haiti was once a French colony and the people there speak French, Kreyòl (Creole) and Spanish (in border areas). Haiti is also the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and one of the poorest in the world.

Haiti Outreach Program & Our Efforts

Since 1999, the Haiti Outreach Program has worked to improve the lives of the people of Haiti. Our organization includes people of many backgrounds and faiths, working together with groups like Partners In Health and Sacred Heart Parish in Knoxville, Tennessee. Haiti Outreach Program’s efforts have helped provide food, clothing, housing, education, healthcare and more.

Education  — A new primary school was opened in 2004 with doubled capacity. The focus of this year is providing better and more bathrooms for the schools and planning improvements and expansion of the secondary and vocational schools to serve the people in Boucan-Carré and the surrounding area.

Medical  — Read about the new clinic, AIDS awareness programs and remote medical services and more.

Community  — Housing, employment, roads, bridges and other elements crucial to a functioning and thriving community are part of our long-term goals to help the people in Haiti.
