Haiti has the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the Western Hemisphere, with about 3.8 percent of
the adult population infected, according to the World Health Organization. AIDS is the leading cause
of death among Haitian teenagers and adults, causing 21.6 percent of deaths from known
causes among those aged 15-49.
