Developments at Our Haiti Schools Since 2000

2000 — Began assisting the St. Michel’s primary school in Boucan Carré managed by a handful of Sisters, serving 350 children in a small cinderblock structure; Raised funds through $100/yr sponsorships which provided books, uniforms, a daily hot balanced meal, and a portion of the teachers’ salaries.

2003 — Stand-alone kitchen built for primary school; began planning for new, larger, safer school building; 600 students

2004 — Completed construction of new primary school

2005 — Established secondary school

2007 — 1000 primary school studentsand 150 secondary school students

2009 — 1129 primary students; 25 vocational students
Secondary school added a “philo” level (following the 12 grade, or “rheto” level) consistent with the Haitian school system; similar to our college prep courses, offered for students going on to colleges and universities.
177 secondary students; 4 philo

2010 — Our Wishlist...additional projects/items we hope to fund this year:

Clean, functional bathrooms for the primary school students, further funding to diversify offerings of vocational school, polo shirts for the secondary school with school name and logo; 4-5 beds for the renovated guest room, US$105 each.
