About 90% of Haiti’s 15,200 primary schools are non-public and managed by the communities, religious organizations or NGOs.
There are over 1300 students in Boucan Carré that benefit from the efforts of the Haiti outreach Program. Since 2001, the number of children attending school has grown from 350 to over 1300. Currently we have 1129 youngsters in the primary school, 177 students in the secondary school and 25 young women in the vocational school. This year an additional level was added, “philo”, consistent with the Haitian school system. It is a college prep level intended for students planning to continue their education. We have four students at this level in this first year.
Haiti Outreach Program provides these children with uniforms, books, and a daily hot lunch with a vitamin supplement. The daily meal the primary school provides is the only meal of the day for some of these children. With better nutrition, vitamins, vaccines and medical attention, the improvement in the children's general health and well being has been tremendous. Our organization also subsidizes the local educational system by improving facilities and helping to pay the salaries of 17 teachers and 5 administrators and staff..
Sponsorship is just $100 per year for the younger students and $200 for high school and vocational school students. If you send us your name and mailing address with your sponsorship, you will receive a certificate and a photo of a child you are helping.
